Ian Wade is the Director of ASI, which he founded in 1991. He is the former VP of Safety and Programs at Outward Bound USA and currently Executive Director of Outward Bound International. Ian is an accomplished climber who has summited Everest and is past-President of the American Mountain Guides Association. With over thirty years of professional experience, Ian has been involved in developing risk management audit programs for America Outdoors, the Climbing Gym Association, and Outward Bound Schools in over 30 countries.
Ian developed the risk management audit systems ASI employs and participates in numerous consulting projects and audits each year. Ian is also active in leading ASI treks including a variety of routes in the Himalayas and ascents of Kilimanjaro. From his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, he enjoys the excellent skiing and climbing in the Wasatch Range.
Alex Kosseff is Program Director for ASI. He is the author of the AMC Guide to Outdoor Leadership. The former Leadership and Volunteer Relations Director for the Appalachian Mountain Club, Alex developed that organization’s risk management audit program. Alex has managed and instructed climbing, backpacking, canoeing, canyoneering, ropes course, and leadership training programs across the U.S.
Alex coordinates ASI’s risk management audit programs and conducts many of the audits. He also focuses his work on leadership training programs and advising volunteer based organizations. Alex lives in Bozeman, Montana, where he is able to lead occasional wilderness trips and enjoy the nearby wilderness areas, fly-fishing, skiing, and climbing.
