Barranco
Let's see, 12 miles of walking is like taking a cab from one end of Manhattan to the other and then half way back...

Peaks and valleys. Are we talking about the your personal highs and lows on the mountain or the 12 mile hike to Barranco? Both are a pretty fair and honest answer. Day 3 was great. The blisters however fervently disagree. The walking, the hiking, the weird Dr. Seuss trees. Yeah, Day 3 wasn't the challenge Ian said it would be, it was just a lot of trail busting and a lot of wide open spaces. True there wasn't much to see except that you had miles and miles to go. Except that you had another peak to climb. Except that, damn, 12 miles is a lot of walking.

Let's see... 12 miles in a cab is almost like walking across Manhattan. And back. As you read that, let me point out that Ian was always saying “It would be about 12 miles (or 8 miles or 10 miles) if we were walking a straight line. But not walking a straight line... so, it's a bit farther than that.” Ever wish you were a crow so you could travel as the crow flies? Can I trade in my crow’s feet for some crow wings? No you can’t, bit it’s amazing how far you can go on your own two feet, a couple of PowerBars, and some water, huh?
