Challenge Course Safety Audits

Challenge Course safety is more than appropriately installed hardware. Most incidents arise from the "software" - the human systems used to operate the Challenge Course.

An Adventure Safety International audit draws on many years of experience to review the software, covering items such as:

  • Participant screening.
  • Staff qualifications.
  • Training curriculums.
  • Rescue and emergency response plans.
  • Supervision and staff development.
  • Routine inspection processes.
  • Ancillary equipment.

Rescue Training & Emergency Planning
Response to an emergency relies initially on staff on the scene being trained to make the correct response to the varied situations that can arise.

The response by administrative staff to the media and families is perhaps more important to minimizing the long-term impact on the organization.

Rescue training for Challenge Course staff and Emergency Planning for administrative staff will ensure the best response in the event of an Incident.
Challenge Course Hardware Inspections

The last decade has seen Challenge Course builders converge on construction standards. The Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and Association for Experiential Education (AEE) have been the primary forum for this to occur.

Now, eighty-one standards are published by the ACCT. These standards are the basis for an inspection by a "Qualified Challenge Course Professional". Meeting the standards each year is recommended by the ACCT and is required for AEE Accreditation.

Adventure Safety International offers two types of Challenge Course hardware inspection:

  1. Review by an Associate Member of ACCT, useful in preparation for an AEE Accreditation Review.
  2. Review by a Voting Member of ACCT who can complete an inspection to certify compliance with standards required for AEE Accreditation.
